What a disappointment it is for NSW universities when their rankings took a belly flop in the recent Times Higher Education rankings. The University of Sydney is ranked 71st and the University of NSW 152nd.
Last year, UNSW ranked 47th whereas University of Sydney tied with Melbourne University for 36th place.
It is indeed a bombshell however we should take into account that this is due to the fact that this year’s rankings are heavily weighted towards research instead of opinion surveys and staff-student ratios as was used formerly.Using the previous methodology, UNSW will rank 5th in Australia and 46th in the world.
