Photo data survived 440 days underwater

Markus Thompson, a diver, found a camera at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, just off the coast of British Columbia.

He managed to recovered the data off the SD card after cleaning it up and using Google+ found the owner! It is such a wonderful surprise to think that after being underwater in a corroding camera since August 2010, the SD card and the 50 pictures from a family vacation weathered it out!

More good news for the owner, a fire fighter from British Columbia, is that Canon Canada has offered to replace the camera- FREE OF CHARGE and SanDisk will also be providing both Markus Thompson and the fire fighter with new SD Exreme III Pro imaging cards.

To know that SD cards are that tough, to be able to survive total submersion in water as well as hang out in salt water for years, allows photographers to rest assure!

Markus’ original photos and post can be found here.
