When it hit a little too close to home…

Accidents happen everyday but most of the time we just skim through the news and move on with our lives. Once in awhile, we pay a little more attention to incidents that claim more lives or deliberate attacks by terror groups.

However, yesterday an accident in NSW hit a little closer to home for me. I do not know the innocent bystanders personally but the fact that they are friends of a friend hit me a little harder than normal. Or perhaps it is the fact that it could have been easily me or my friend? Or that it is such a common street that any of us could have been walking on, after all I frequent that suburb rather regularly?

Two ladies, friends of my friend were involved in the accident – one of them is still in ICU and according to my friend, she fractured her skull and broke some ribs. It saddens me and I guess life really is such a fragile state of being.

As I walked on the streets today, I wonder if there is anything as being truly safe? I think as long as you are out there, there will always be risks involved. This accident was what it is, an accident- an unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally.

On a side note, normally when there is a terror attack in certain countries/areas, my parents tend to advise me to avoid and stay away from those places and many friends used to make fun of me and say well accidents can happen anywhere and to anyone. Even if you were to walk down the street, you could be hit by a car. No doubt they are right, but why would you or I want to take the risk, if it is something we can avoid from happening, I say- take all the necessary precautions! Just my twopence.

NB: No one was airlifted to the hospital according to my sources
